this flew under my radar, really cool loop!

Let's be clear: making ai art even for a throwaway meme is still theft and a problem that reinforces the demand that enables these companies to lose billions while causing irreparable environmental harm. Looking past the theft aspect and power/water consumption and focusing on the consistency or the spirit of creation is something that can be changed if the technology continues to develop. The point isn't that ai is bad at making art, it's theft and the law needs to catch up. It doesn't matter if some day it gets better and focusing on the quality will only make that aspect front and center

Edit: 14 year olds can learn gimp, it's free photoshop. Generative AI models have access to millions of copyrighted works it should not have access to, it is theft even if the process has extra steps

Metallis responds:

I'm not sure i personally agree on the "theft" aspect of it. Every artist takes influence from some other work of art somehow to create their own style/work-- technically ai is just doing the same.
I guess it's more bad when ai is just straight up copying a style and trying to pass it as an original? I'd agree that's an issue, but that's a more specific component of ai, not the entirety of it.
The broader issue artists have with it is that takes jobs from them (or the fear that it does).
Also 14 year olds just want to have fun, let them create there silly memes that they wont care for past like 6 months lol

either way thanks for the review!

I like whatever that head roll move bit is, really spunky animation

I have to give you a 3.5 instead of 3 star rating because I accidentally improved my experience playing this game. My browser was zoomed in by about 150% so the character was much larger and the top of the screen was cropped off, unknown to me. i just saw my character in the grass and water to my left.

Very weirdly it made the aimless roaming more interesting when i couldn't see when the grass would end. It felt like ages before something would come into view that's important or different. I also didn't even know there was a top bit for awhile which made me wander in circles around the 3 edges of the river and hope to find another fish waiting to be caught. That extra aimless wandering before trying the game zoomed out was far more interesting than what I think other people experienced playing the game and it made the theme you're going for MUCH stronger

Did this need to be a games submission? I hope I'm missing something cause all i see is like a pdf-style guide to doing something off-site to watch the content. Making newgrounds centric stuff work on newgrounds is a no brainer, but when a game is too big for web or the content can't be experienced on the platform I think it's totally fine to just have it work on its intended platform and only link to it in the description or reference it in a blog post with download instructions.

Feels kind of weird to attribute a rating to this so I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong: that the content is actually somewhere in this submission

alsoknownas1 responds:

This was such an NG centric joint it would have been a tragedy to host it on itch.

150 goddamn artist and you chose flash?
Literally the worst possible way to present uncompressed artwork
The preloader is struggling just to show the logo...

Nice main menu
Next time you should load the artworks in a random order, some artists will never get seen if you gotta click 100 times

QueenBoo responds:

Gonna guess it’s a learning process for everyone here LMAO

holy goddamn shit guys, the vocals are so fitting. it's a perfect pairing of talents

ADR3-N responds:

Thank you <3

you can credit audio in the project system, you dont need to add 27 people to your two-man podcast. having the timestamps in the description is kind of nice but also you've hyperlinked most of the embeded links even though you can clearly see that for the ones you forgot to hyperlink they have a nice audio player built in which is better.

Edit: okay, that's your reasoning, here's what it LOOKS like. I put my podcast in the feeds of 27 people so more people see it

Aalasteir responds:

Hi Brandon!

Thank you for your review. I am always happy and open to having conversations. I appreciate your interest in the podcast and am grateful for all feedback and reviews. I value your input and am always open to dialogue.

I will adjust the production pipeline to ensure that the music will show up;

Regarding the line, "you dont need to add 27 people to your two-man podcast" the reason it is structured this way is because people enjoy being part of a project and receiving credit for their contributions.

The way I see this is as a community event centered around cultivating community activity. I believe it is beneficial that it incorporates additional elements that invite participation from a broader segment of our community, that is valuable to people.

My underlying philosophy for the material I produce is:
Does this provide value to the Newgrounds community?

The decisions behind Groundcrew stem from that core value theory, and those choices were made based on my analysis of what I believe people would enjoy in a podcast within my production scope.

Some of the vocal performances are pretty fun and engaging, but the audio mixing is quite bad. It's clearly leveled for headphones so playing it on speakers or in the car makes lines almost inaudible at times due to the music or the filters and reverb over the voices. That sucks because it's an audio drama, I gotta know what they're saying.

The writing can be quite bad at times. It's clear there are points when the story and dialogue is meant to be played straight and sometimes it becomes jokey like a deconstruction of the tropes in this genre, but it's not always clear when that change happens. It feels like the writers aren't totally familiar with the genre they're parodying in those moments. Character writing is also inconsistent between scenes. The use of language, attitude, and the way the characters speak change drastically in unexplainable ways. That's on the writing, not the voice actors.

I like that following a mention of a cleaning product the next ad breaking up the radio play was about the product, it silly and it works but I could do without all the interruptions personally.

Lastly, this is a whodunit... as a fan of mystery and detective stories I'm always a little disappointed when the mystery is merely an aesthetic of storytelling rather than a puzzle that asks the reader/listener to participate and speculate

P.s. facade is pronounced "fuh-sod" lawl

NickSenny responds:

We pretty much just handed it over person to person, not sure how everything was finalized or if just got stitched together, but a good constructive criticism
