Decent aesthetic, fitting music, but really lacking in polish in some places: movement is stiff, the SFX don't really mesh well in some places, tiny bugs in the start menu(when starting your first game it asks if you really wanna delete your save, so i started spamming continue but obviously there was no save), I like that the how to play menu could only be exited with the pause button which aptly teaches you where the unusual pause button is.

The dialogue is silent, no music, no SFX, really makes me feel uninvolved and more aware im playing a video game; which is to say conscious that i can skip through dialogue without actively reading any of it. Unfortunately I had to stop playing for now because the game freezes on this machine the moment i enter the first real level with music in it :/

p.s. ALWAYS love a custom NG logo in a new style :D

Hm, for the dialogue sound, I wanted to make something more like Pokemon, where the scrolling text doesn't make a sound, but only when you press it. We might change that. People may prefer this approach.
We also fixed the title screen issue, added music to the opening area, and some missing sfx. So thanks you for the feedback!
We didn't find anything about the crash, and I think you're the only one who had this problem. I don't think the problem was with the game, but we'll investigate further. Thanks for the review !

one of the worst

I have to give you a 3.5 instead of 3 star rating because I accidentally improved my experience playing this game. My browser was zoomed in by about 150% so the character was much larger and the top of the screen was cropped off, unknown to me. i just saw my character in the grass and water to my left.

Very weirdly it made the aimless roaming more interesting when i couldn't see when the grass would end. It felt like ages before something would come into view that's important or different. I also didn't even know there was a top bit for awhile which made me wander in circles around the 3 edges of the river and hope to find another fish waiting to be caught. That extra aimless wandering before trying the game zoomed out was far more interesting than what I think other people experienced playing the game and it made the theme you're going for MUCH stronger

Did this need to be a games submission? I hope I'm missing something cause all i see is like a pdf-style guide to doing something off-site to watch the content. Making newgrounds centric stuff work on newgrounds is a no brainer, but when a game is too big for web or the content can't be experienced on the platform I think it's totally fine to just have it work on its intended platform and only link to it in the description or reference it in a blog post with download instructions.

Feels kind of weird to attribute a rating to this so I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong: that the content is actually somewhere in this submission

This was such an NG centric joint it would have been a tragedy to host it on itch.
